My name is Gabby Chia and I am from the West Coast of Canada.

Welcome to my blog. I'm here to document some thoughts and find inspiration while attempting to improve my hand at photography. I find inspiration in the melancholic and hope to reproduce the hum of nostalgia for you in my images! This blog might consist of random thoughts - raw and unpolished. You can find me here, typing away on this electronic archive of thoughts and images. Or if you'd prefer some other social media site, those can be found in the footer.

I can be contacted at fearfiction.contact@gmail.com.

Hello! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, I must be slacking again. However, I recently got to take some photos for one of my favourite skincare companies again, Circcell! I love how these photos turned out almost as much as I love the products in them. They did not ask me to write a review, but I did it anyway because I want to share this wonderful line with whoever stumbles upon this blog post.

Go ahead and read more into my review that no one asked for!

In case you don’t follow my social media (which you can find here if you want to change that), I’m in New Zealand! Though I haven’t had the opportunity to travel as much as I should, no place has blown me away as much as New Zealand has in just the past two days! The photo opportunities alone are enough to make me consider the move.

I’ve been pacing my time with photography lately and waiting until golden hour - sunset - to start shooting! Being in rainy Vancouver, however, has proved it to be a difficult task as the clouds remain thick enough to block out the sun. During the evenings when the sky does decide to open up and the golden colours peak through makes it all worth it for the soft light!

I’ve been learning new ways to shoot and edit, so hopefully you enjoy my new style, because I’m feeling so inspired now!

Want to learn how to do photo manipulation? It’s not as hard as you think! I’m giving you an overview of how I make my surrealism photos with Photoshop! Once you’re familiar with the tools of Photoshop, the rest is easy, but definitely time consuming.

Here are a couple photos taken with this little yellow flower! There’s so many ways you can use a prop, you just have to play around with it and take steps towards the potential of failure. Many of my creative photos don’t work out due to the littlest inconsistency or lack of technical knowledge beyond the work I’m prepared to put into Photoshop. Even then, you just have to try again, this time with more preparation.

I’ve worked with VIP Shop in the past, and their quality and fit of their clothing is yet to falter! Here is a collection of some images I created in collaboration with them inspired by the whimsical and nostalgic tones of this lively flowery meadow.

Also, if you want to pick something up from VIP Shop, I have a little coupon code here for you to get $5 of any $50 order: Gabby1167

IMG_2898.jpg

I have recently come to realize the once fenced up and abandoned little village town I’ve passed close to some hundreds of times over the years is not entirely encircled by unflatteringly bright blue enclosures, but is hindered only sparsely. There is something eerily charming about a dank and decrepit little village branching out an arm from the city. The wind howls through the drainpipes, careless to displace the leaves. The isolation is inviting by day, and repulsive by nightfall – save the brave and careless few who venture out at these exclusive hours. Aside from the fresh few looks, I had narrowly spared a glance to the caved in garages and weather-torn paint.

I had the pleasure of working with VIP Shop! They sent me this beautiful off the shoulder dress that I've been getting compliments on every time I wear it! It also fits perfectly for my small frame and the elastic band around the shoulder doesn't pull up my shoulders at every movement.

I tested it out for a few weeks and so far the quality has stood up to my constant accidental tugging on the fabric. It's a great midi length that sits just halfway past the calf which is the perfect length where it doesn't get caught walking up the stairs.

I've been taking a posting break to focus on creating better content! As much as I love photography, my passion is in the editing so I decided to focus on creating some more complex images!

I've been debating purchasing Plotagraph software for quite some time, so I finally took the plunge and I'm so excited to use it on future images! I've always made cinemagraphs, but they often don't turn out from the tiniest inconsistency. With Plotaverse, I can make my photos move from still images!

We returned to a sea of tall grass and early blooming flora in our staple neutral shades to take our staple neutral images.

I attempted some more surrealism, which I'm relatively pleased with! I had the chance to prop open my book of short tales and horrors from the distinguished (though unfortunately not at the time) fantasy writer, H.P. Lovecraft. If you kept up with my blog, you might know I am inspired by his writing and stories often!

Although I have been lacking a posting schedule, I have not been lacking in photoshoots, so as long as I don't neglect my blogging duties for extensive periods of time again, you can expect much more!

Just working on getting back into the swing of things.

This summer I had the opportunity to work in collaboration with Bridge & Burn, a company I admired since last summer! Their large line of linens and graphic tees are so simple yet they hold a PNW charm that distinguishes it from most classic styles.
